Emissary From another World

Here is my illustration for the concept 101 art competition "Emissary from another world".

Far in the future, a being from a far away world, called "The Traveler" is on a mission to explore other planets. On its journey, The Traveler finds a probe, flying alone in space. According to its appearance, it seems this object has been gliding through the depths of space for a long time. As the traveler approaches the probe to investigate it he finds a golden disc on the side of this object. It holds information about a distant planet and its civilization: Our Earth. With the encoded coordinates, the traveler is curious about what could be found on this planet and if the civilization is still there. He sees this as an invitation and is ready for the long journey to Earth. We experience the story from the perspective of the traveler, in which we are the aliens who sent an ancient artifact (a message) into space.

My focus in this illustration was to get the mood, lighting and composition right, while having the focus on the golden record and keeping the Traveler more in the shadows to keep the character mysterious.

The interior is inspired by a mix of futuristic sci-fi Interiors and Miguel Angel Aragonés minimalistic Interior Designs, which by night light up with cinematic neon colors. Some of his light set-ups somehow reminded me of the film "2001 A Space Odyssey". Technology should look advanced, but not too far ahead of us humans. I wanted to keep it rough and mechanical with some freedom of sci-fi technology.

Peace :)
